What happens to your voice, in plain English.
Nothing in Voice Studio is generated. There is no AI voice standing in for you and no synthetic speech. Every sound the other person hears is your own voice, shaped with the kind of processing a sound engineer uses in a recording studio.
That is why it sounds like you on a good day rather than like a voice assistant. People who know you will recognise you straight away.
Cheap voice changers speed a voice up or slow it down, which moves everything at once and gives the well-known chipmunk or robot sound. Voice Studio finds each single cycle of your voice and moves the cycles closer together or further apart. The resonances of your throat and mouth, which are what make a voice recognisably yours, stay exactly where they were.
Pitch is limited to four semitones either way, and steadiness to 40% less rise and fall, because beyond that any voice starts to sound unnatural. We would rather you could not go too far.
Voice Studio runs on your computer's processor as you speak, in a small fraction of one core. You do not need a graphics card or a new computer. Tone settings add no delay at all; pitch and steadiness add 42 milliseconds, far less than anyone can notice on a call.
It works after ClearTone has removed your background noise, so the person on the line hears one clean, clear voice in every calling app.
Voice Studio measures sound, not people: your natural pitch, how much bass, presence and s sound there is in your voice. Best for Calls uses those numbers only to make your words clearer, and never changes your pitch. Every other change is yours to make, try and undo.
Your recording stays in your computer's memory while the ClearTone window is open and is never uploaded.
